I’m sorry to hear about the audit, Jesse, but glad it’s behind you and happy to have your post whenever it arrives! I have also been delayed in my own work because I’m in NYC and don’t have access to my computer. (I’ve had a difficult time writing posts on my smartphone and the jet lag hasn’t helped. 😑)

I’m very fortunate that Taiwan has an incredible amount of nature close at hand, even in the big city of Taipei. I myself prefer the mountains though my wife often is also refreshed by a visit to the ocean.

In the mountains, I love the scope of it all and seeing the textures of nature rise and fall away with the contours of the landscape. The light and shadow, the interplay of the two, as the sunshine comes down between the branches of the trees overhead and all around. I love the silence of man made things and the quiet subtlety of life in nature; wind, shifting branches, rubbing and creaking bamboo, chittering squirrels and the calling of birds. Not to mention the one man made sound of the earth under my feet: my footsteps meeting grass, gravel, mud, stone or water.

Many wonderful words and quotes. I hope to say hello to you in person this Thursday but for now — Sleep calls! Many thanks as always, Jesse! 🙏

Three films that hold the shimmer of a summer we never want to end:

– Purple Noon (Plein Soleil, 1960)

– The Big Blue (Le Grand Bleu, 1988)

– The Green Ray (Le Rayon Vert, 1986)

Each film captures not just the sunlight and sea, but the fleeting feeling that something perfect is just within reach—and already slipping away.

Good morning, Jesse. Thank you for your nourishing words. Rockaway Beach looks and sounds like heaven on earth.

I bought a vinyl today. I saw a Degas painting printed on the cover. 25 most beloved melodies. I’ve listened to both sides already and can’t wait to begin again come sunrise.

I’m praying for humanity. I’m focusing on kindness. I’m taking my suffering with grace.

Your timing is always divine.

Your birthday, an exciting time to celebrate. We are blessed with your peaceful presence. Your good work 🌹 🌹 🌹

May our fractured world be sealed with gold 💛

Your photos are exquisite and transportive. A portal to the beach. 👣 👣

With Love, Amar in the desert 🌵

Thank you for your lovely post especially the video of the waves crashing on the beach. It’s one of my favourite sounds and brings immediate sense of peace and slows my busy mind.

I was so pleased to hear you saved the gardens ( read it on Instagram) these places are so special and important for city dwellers mental health.

I did a special Gong Bath for Solstice. It opened my heart and brought much needed peace. Listening to the Sparrows chirping their happy songs outside as l write this Happy Summer to you all. Much love from London 🙏

I like to visit Haystack Rock at Cannon Beach Oregon. It's about a 4 hour drive, so I can usually go only once a year. The rock is estimated to be 15 million years old. It is very grounding to me to know that so many things that come and go that the rock and the ocean will always be there. I grew up in the mid-west, so being able to go to the ocean is such a wonderful thing.

Edna St. Vincent Millay

1892 –

1950

People that build their houses inland,

People that buy a plot of ground

Shaped like a house, and build a house there,

Far from the sea-board, far from the sound

Of water sucking the hollow ledges,

Tons of water striking the shore,—

What do they long for, as I long for

One salt smell of the sea once more?

People the waves have not awakened,

Spanking the boats at the harbour's head,

What do they long for, as I long for,—

Starting up in my inland bed,

Beating the narrow walls, and finding

Neither a window nor a door,

Screaming to God for death by drowning,—

One salt taste of the sea once more?

———————————-

A poem that pierced my heart when I moved to the banks of the Mississippi River from Santa Barbara ( and grew up in Huntington LI )

The sea! The sea! 🐚

(And yay for the Elizabeth Street Garden! So much to celebrate, after a lot of hard work.)

I typically spend more time in the mountains than I do at the ocean. However, now that I live just a few hours from the ocean, I’ve discovered how much the ocean speaks to me. I wrote about it here.

Thank you for this beautiful, heartfelt post, Jesse.

I am sorry for your issues with the IRS.

You are remarkable, even with all of that stress - you are able to share this amazing post. You always bring inspiration and grace.

I hope that this summer is full of joy for you. Thank you for all that you do.

💛💛💛

PS Great news about the Elizabeth Street Garden and I truly love that Werner Herzog quote as a boy on the Great Lakes I always hoped for sea monsters lurking in the depths.

I'm taking a break from work (endless patient lab deciphering) to join you here, and that first picture of the sea was a real tonic! Two places I have to visit this summer are Central Park, which I have barely seen in my 26 years in NYC, and Rockaway, which I have never been to. It was on my list last summer before my ankle injury intervened.

The water also reminds me of the triumphant bath Rico just took (much needed, I may add lol) . It's so great to have the little guy still here after that huge scare over the weekend. A reminder to always appreciate what and who you have in your life in the moment. Now I am even happy to clean up his seed - though I doubt that will last long:)))

Never been audited, but know people who have, sounds like a huge pain. I guess you can also celebrate that being done on your birthday! Wow, it doesn't feel like a whole year since your last birthday post!

Also, what a great start to summer to hear that Elizabeth Street Garden has been saved!!! My favorite earworm song at the moment is Cloud Busting by Kate Bush: "I just know that something good is going to happen," and with that news today, it did. I think now more than ever, we have to hold on to that hope!

Okay, I am rambling, so I will take my leave:) Wishing everyone a great afternoon and evening and, for those in NYC we are going to be experiencing over 100 degree temperatures tomorrow. Stay cool!!!

I have been listening to quite a lot of her stuff lately and watched a concert when I was locked down with Rico:) It's a pity she only did one tour. I may do a post here about her:)

Ahhh, summer is here. I live in an apartment right across from the worlds longest freshwater boardwalk. That's usually where I'm relaxing or fishing in the thumb of Michigan. I love watching the seagulls, the freighters going by, and meeting total strangers. Love summer.

Thank you for your sweet thoughts and observations. Sorry to hear about the audit. They seem to prey on small fish. I was audited once, maybe a decade ago, and it turned out in my favor. They ended up paying me some money that they owed me! I hope you have such an outcome.

Summer blessings.
