I’m reading the Fernando Pessoa biography by Richard Zenith since it came out 😅 It’s a slow read for me because I want to enjoy every word of it 😊

“Man shouldn’t be able to see his own face – there’s nothing more sinister. Nature gave him the gift of not being able to see it, and of not being able to stare into his own eyes.

Only in the water of rivers and ponds could he look at his face. And the very posture he had to assume was symbolic. He had to bend over, stoop down, to commit the ignominy of beholding himself.

The inventor of the mirror poisoned the human heart.”

I believe this to be so. I cover my mirrors during my cleansing practice when I take a week and silence my speech and slow down my mind with intentional living.

I also wear head covering to protect my crown during deep spiritual practice. I much enjoy how I feel with the head covering.

I love all the quotes you’ve shared and feel enriched and inspired by your writing and the wonderful world you share. Thank you, Jesse, for your time and tenderness. 🍊

Enjoy your happy steps to the garden 🌱

Happy Summer Solstice ☀️

I made a tune called Solarize

“Up on the mountain

and to the point to view

where I can see the sun

and the sun can see me too”

Jesse, this post has served as a catalyst - The Book of Disquiet sits patiently on my table. Numerous times I've picked it up, held it, then said "Not yet". But today, thanks to your prompt, I will dive head

first into the enigmatic world of Pessoa. Cheers to you on this beautiful June day.

That was a lovely read. I'm reading The Book of Disquiet at the moment (in German translation). I'm just around the passages that you quoted from regarding sleep :-) I loved that passage as well, and the few pages after that were talks about clouds and rain and it's all so beautifully weaved into the internal world. I especially like that bit were he talks about being between sleeping and waking.

Enjoy the summer solstice!

Thanks for the June bday wishes! In your mom’s Book of Days she chose to commentate the completion of Picasso’s Guerninca on June 4th. I just love that so much! Happy almost birthday to you too Jesse - very lucky that it’s the longest day of the year! 🥂

This just gave me great inspiration for a poetry contest I am entering this summer. I've entered the same contest 2 years in a row and have never made it to the top ten, but I will continue to enter every year writing poetry is my most favorite thing to do.

Reading some of Fernando's quotes here has definitely stirred the ideas around in my brain and brought a few together that has gotten my writing flow going again. Thank you so much Jesse! Hope you have a lovely day as well. I will view the beauty of the Elizabeth street garden through your eyes until I can make it there on my own some day :)
