April in London means April Showers, Cherry Blossoms, flowers blooming everywhere, trees becoming green, the Dawn Chorus and birds nesting . Our local Swans have built their amazing nests and are sitting on eggs, can’t wait to see their Cygnets! And yes l leave in the morning with a jacket and usually arrive home without one. I love April. Much love from London 🙏
Thank you for sharing all these beautiful photos and blogs. I so enjoyed them. April is very special for some special times from past but also the turning of the wheel that brings growth and beginnings.
In Denmark we say: "April is as unfaithfull as the young girls".
We have temperatures from below Zero to about 15 degrees Celsius.
I am a 68 year old Vanlifer and some nights in my car was freezing. Others very fine. About 5 degrees in the night is fine.
I left my boyfriend the 9. April.
My farther was 96 years, if he livet the 13. April.
My son is 49 years the 16. April.
My granddaughter is 7 the 30. April.
So 50/50 los and joy.
Sundby I visited Rønnebæksholm and saw a great exibition. Wish I could send you fotos of the beautifull art. Then I went to a movie FATHER MOTHER SISTER BROTHER by Jim Jarmush. Fantastic film. Hope you have/have had the uppertunity to see that. It sidste with you for awhile.
Then my friend and I dined outsite in the sun. Marvellous day. The sun went down at 20 o'clock.
Washington you a lovely evening and many beautifull april days.
It’s always a pleasure to read your posts. Thank you Jesse for your excitement and your quiet thoughtful vibe. Like you I had trouble figuring out how to dress for the day. I find April a confusing month as winter ends and Spring begins with false starts and stops. Here in Toronto I’m enjoying a thunder storm. April also brings a few birthdays of dear friends so I am always happy to remember them. Watching the trees bud out makes me very happy and I await the blossoming Magnolias that pop out all over the city.
April is special. It's my mom's birth month. She just turned 93. In the Pacific Northwest we enjoy the cherry blossoms especially at the University of Washington (now over) and I'll be heading up to Skagit Valley to see the tulips this week. Large farms and gardens, just filled with every color. It's one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. It's always a special time because who knows what next year will bring?
April is always a transitional bloom month for me. The tulips have all but died by the end of March (though everything varies year to year.)In Berkeley, March is the big bulb month. April brings cherry blossoms, wisteria, dogwood and many other beautiful flowers like California poppy. Besides Earth Day, the largest celebration on campus happens on 4/20 where thousands gather on Memorial Glade and enjoy the day together. It’s a beautiful month of renewal and welcoming all that is new and beautiful. Here’s an April poem I love:
In April
by Rainer Maria Rilke
Again the woods are odorous, the lark
Lifts on upsoaring wings the heaven gray
That hung above the tree-tops, veiled and dark,
Where branches bare disclosed the empty day.
After long rainy afternoons an hour
Comes with its shafts of golden light and flings
Them at the windows in a radiant shower,
And rain drops beat the panes like timorous wings.
Then all is still. The stones are crooned to sleep
My mother died in April…she loved flowers and she took their beautiful blooming transience with her when she fled her body. Her favorite month. She never saw the blossoms disappear.
Salud i abraçades. Dolors
Lovely - thank you so much - springtime is fits and starts here in Minnesota - but all of us here are viscerally needing the warmth and beauty that will inevitably emerge -
Repetition can be hypnotic when mused by muses. Or abusive as mostly hypnotic mostly muse Van Morrison proves a bit too often down through the seasons and years and what Thom Gunn (my poet & mentor) taught us back in Bay Area around book & record shops and out-of-the-way performance venues of Berkeley, CA circa 1980's named his under-rated book of essays "The Occasions of Poetry..." Which mystical Oakland Wicca poet who haunted Telegraph Ave and the U.C. area occult book shops Robert Duncan intoned in a whole other register: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Duncan_(poet)
Robert Edward Duncan (January 7, 1919 – February 3, 1988[1]) was an American poet and a devotee of Hilda "H.D." Doolittle and the Western esoteric tradition[2] who spent most of his career in and around San Francisco.[3] Though associated with any number of literary traditions and schools, Duncan is often identified with the poets of the New American Poetry and Black Mountain College. Duncan saw his work as emerging especially from the tradition of Ezra Pound, William Carlos Williams and D. H. Lawrence. Duncan was a key figure in the San Francisco Renaissance.[4]
Overview
As a poet and intellectual, Duncan's presence was felt across many facets of popular culture. His name is prominent in the history of pre-Stonewall gay culture and in the emergence of bohemian socialist communities of the 1930s and 1940s, in the Beat Generation, and in the cultural and political upheaval of the 1960s, influencing occult and gnostic circles of the time. During the later part of his life, Duncan's work, published by City Lights and New Directions, came to be distributed worldwide, and his influence as a poet is evident today in both mainstream and avant-garde writing.[5]
Early life and education
Duncan was born in Oakland, California,[6] as Edward Howard Duncan Jr. His mother, Marguerite Pearl Duncan, had died in his childbirth. He was her tenth child and the delivery was at home to avoid the risks of contracting the so-called Spanish influenza at a medical facility.[7] Duncan's father was unable to afford him, so in 1920 he was adopted by Edwin and Minnehaha Symmes, a family of devout Theosophists.[8] They renamed him Robert Edward Symmes in honor of a family friend.[7]
First of all, thank you so much for sharing my post here:) It was an amazing exhibition, and I am looking forward to attending the opening of the next one at the end of the month. I am also looking forward to the Antiquarian Book Fair - my third one now!
The remainder of April is set to be extremely busy for me, as, on top of my job "Running an Empire," as my friend Colette calls it (aka a telemedicine practice), I am moving apartments! Just to another one in my building around the back, which will hopefully be less noisy. Later in the year, I hope to be moving back to the city - talking of the city, I will be staying there while I am moving, yet another challenge lol. I am convinced I can do it in a few hours - famous last words:))
Thank you for another thoughtful and thought-provoking post, and for your support:)
I’d never given much thought to April until reading your post. Maybe I should have since my first best friend and a beloved golden retriever were born in April. Thank you for the beautiful poem at the end.
I love April too, it use to carry grief for me and my family. My Uncle had died on April 8th, which also happened to be so close to Easter that year. It was a confusing time for me as a child. But then my son was born on that same date in 2011, and with his birth sprang up new hope. So, as each April comes with the weather changes and plant life beginning again, I find the joy in all the change that April brings. I hope you get to enjoy the sunshine and flowers today Jesse🌸
Helena, thank you so very much for sharing this - the epitome of Spring and those words from T.S. Eliot. The grief, loss, remembrance, new beginnings, new awakening, and the pain of it all. Sending so much love to you. <3

I had similar spring wardrobe questions on my walkabout downtown yesterday.

And cradled in the branches, hidden deep
In each bright bud, a slumbering silence lies.

I agree that redundancy is good. Also, I think repetition is a positive thing as well.
