Today is July 12, which means it’s one of my favorite days, the birthday of Henry David Thoreau. I am here in Manhattan, and while I wish so much that I was in Concord, as I love to be on this day, I am happy to be here in my home amongst Henry’s books and words, and feeling that feeling of Concord that I know so well.
Here below are some previous posts I’ve written about Henry, and also a recent post about Walt Whitman and Emerson that mentions him, too. The posts include many quotes, links, photos, and personal stories related to Henry and Concord.
The Thoreau Society Annual Gathering is taking place right now in Concord. Here is a link with more info and also for the Concord Saunterer, the modern journal of Thoreau studies, with archives and backissues. Also the Walden Woods Project, too.
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
All the best,
Jesse

I find it difficult sometimes to write about these figures, as the…
Now Comes Good Sailing
Today May 6th is the anniversary of the death of Henry David Thoreau, who if you know me closely you know is one of my dearest figures and influences, along with the writers and thinkers and farmers of Concord, Massachusetts, a place of great importance in my life and great comfort to my heart.

Both of these figures were influential to each other, and are deeply important and influential to me as they are to so many of us. I’ve writt…
I love and look forward to the yearly reminder of Thoreau's birthday. He is the King!
I grew up in Massachusetts. I’ve been to Concord many times. It’s one of my favorite places to be. I feel rooted and connected, inspired and hopeful whenever I’m there.
